By Al Pote: For March 16, 2010

Both Pla-Mor and Spare Time Lanes are in the home stretch of their 2009-2010 seasons, and both centers will conclude their campaigns with traditional springtime tournaments.

The 7th Annual Big Ern's Tournament has already witnessed two weekends of action at Spare Time, as both male and female bowlers will shoot for a prize fund which exceeded $23,000 in 2009.

The format consists of Team, Singles and Doubles competition, with any mixture of men and ladies permitted. The cost per event is $22, and the handicap is 90% from 230.

The final weekend of the event will be May 22-23, and the tournament will recess on Easter weekend (April 3-4) and on Mother's Day (May 9). Entries will close on May 16.

For available squad times, interested bowlers are asked to call Ernie Keltner, proprietor of Big Ern's Pro Shop inside Spare Time Lanes at 875-3141.

Pla-Mor Lanes will start their March tournament program this weekend with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters' "Bowl for Kids' Sake." USBC certification is not required, and signups will be handled through the local BBBS office.

There will be multiple squad times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bowlers are asked to acquire pledges and sponsors. For more information and special daily features, players may reach BBBS at 428-4240.

Pla-Mor Lanes, Roto-Grip and Gene Vincent's Bowlers Choice Pro Shop will run three tournaments on the final weekend of March. On the 27th, it will be their 2nd Annual Plastic Ball Tournament, a 5-game scratch singles event for men and women with a $45 entry fee.

On the 28th, two separate scratch contests will be held, with no limitations on equipment. Running concurrently will be a 50-and-older Singles Tournament and a 49-and-younger individual tilt.

Added sponsorship money will be split between the two tournaments, and both of the Sunday events are also open to men and ladies. The entry fee is $80 for both of the seven-game sweepers.

On April 17, the 45th Annual Tolly's Ladies Singles and Doubles tournaments will commence at Pla-Mor. The squad times will be 11am, 1:15pm and 3:30pm on both Saturdays and Sundays, with no activity on Mother's Day.

The entry fee for each series is $20 per person, and bowlers have the option to participate in Singles, Doubles or both. The handicap will be 90% from 210. Entries will close on May 22, the final day of the tournament.

Interested female bowlers are asked to call 428-2222 for more information.
